DHUSAMAREB — The Galmudug State Ministry of Relief has reported that severe drought conditions have significantly impacted communities and livestock in multiple districts within the Mudug Region.
According to the Ministry, the extended dry has caused widespread harm to human and animal populations, intensifying humanitarian requirements throughout the affected areas.
Authorities emphasized that diminished water resources, depleted grazing lands, and deteriorating animal health have created substantial pressure on local livelihoods. The crisis is particularly affecting nomadic communities, whose survival relies heavily on their herds. The situation mirrors broader regional challenges, as recent reports indicate that the drought crisis has forced thousands to flee their homes in search of water and pasture.
Call for Immediate Intervention
The Galmudug State Ministry of Relief has appealed for immediate humanitarian support to aid affected residents, underlining the necessity of collaborative initiatives to deliver water provisions, sustenance supplies, and crisis relief services.
Government officials have additionally requested assistance from humanitarian collaborators, funding contributors, and concerned organizations to intensify their interventions. These efforts are aimed at reducing drought effects and averting further decline in the quality of life for residents.
The persistent drought remains a critical concern throughout various regions of Somalia. Federal agencies, such as the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), have recently dispatched essential aid supplies to districts in Galmudug to mitigate the impact, but local authorities warn that more resources are needed as the dry season continues.
