The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has committed itself to provide security for the upcoming rally by the opposition in Mogadishu.
This was revealed following a second round of talks between Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and the opposition.
Roble met with members of the Council of Presidential Candidates Union at Decale Hotel in the nation’s capital on March 1.
Afterward, the Prime Minister said that the opposition was free to proceed with their rally, which is due for March 6.
Prime Minister Roble assured the opposition candidates that the government would provide security on Saturday.
This would be a welcome departure from the events that took place when the opposition tried to hold their first rally on February 19.
Bloody clashes were the order of the day back then.
The opposition candidates assured the Prime Minister that they would hold a peaceful rally.
The rally was to have taken place on February 26 but the opposition postponed it for 10 days after their initial meeting with Roble on February 25.
