Head of British Office in Hargeisa Urges Somaliland Leaders to Embrace Dialogue

The Head of the British Office in Hargeisa has appealed to Somaliland leaders to engage in constructive dialogue.

Lizzie Walker, the Head of the British Office in Hargeisa, made this request on Thursday, August 11.

She spoke as reports of increased tension emanate from Somaliland.

Opposition leaders in the breakaway region have continuously threatened to take to the streets to protest plans by the government of President Muse Bihi Abdi to postpone upcoming polls.

Somaliland is scheduled to hold elections in November 2022.

Walker reminded the Somaliland government that everyone has a right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.

However, she urged all leaders to behave peacefully and follow the law.
