The United States Embassy in Somalia has urged all Somaliland leaders to avoid violence during street protests.
Opposition leaders in Somaliland have planned street demonstrations to protest against the rumored plan by the government to postpone the elections due in November 2022.
They have continuously blamed President Muse Bihi Abdi for attempting to extend his stay in power illegally by postponing the polls.
On August 11, the US Embassy in Mogadishu urged all Somaliland leaders whether in the government or opposition to avoid violence.
Instead, the Embassy appealed to the leaders to embrace dialogue.
The talks between the government and the opposition collapsed a few weeks ago.
According to the US Embassy, failure to reach an agreement on the elections could threaten all the gains that Somaliland has made in its democracy.
