Anxiety and depression are quite common among health workers in Somalia, a recent study has discovered.
This was revealed last week during a health research conference in Garowe.
Dr. Abdirazak Yusuf Ahmed, director of the De Martino Hospital in Mogadishu, attributed the high numbers to several factors.
In his view, the COVID-19 pandemic is one of the major causes.
Dr. Ahmed said that the study relied upon the widely trusted Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scales (DASS) matrix.
During the research, 186 health workers in three medical facilities in the nation’s capital were interviewed.
According to the research findings, 69.3 percent of the health workers in Somalia suffer from anxiety, 46.5 percent from depression, and 15.2 percent from stress.
