HirShabelle Presidential Candidates Register for Polls on November 2

Individuals interested in vying for Wednesday’s presidential elections in HirShabelle are expected to register on November 2, 2020.

The registration takes place two days before the elections.

A committee appointed to oversee the elections made this announcement on Sunday, November 1.

Afterward, the candidates who would have registered would then get a chance to address the regional parliament on Tuesday, November 3.

Thereafter, the HirShabelle Regional Parliament, through its 90 Members of Parliament (MPs), would elect the new state president.

On Sunday, Somalia’s ex-President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed met some of the new MPs in Jowhar.

It is not clear whether ex-President Ahmed has a preferred presidential candidate in HirShabelle since he has not endorsed one publically.

One of the candidates in the presidential race, Mohamed Ibrahim Qoone, accompanied former President Ahmed.
