Mohamed Mursal, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, attended the meeting of opposition leaders in Mogadishu on Monday, November 23.
Speaker Mursal arrived at the venue of the meeting, Jazeera Hotel, accompanied by the Deputy Speaker of the Lower House.
Speaker Mursal’s arrival at the meeting is significant considering that he leaders the Lower House, which is renowned for supporting President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s administration.
Lately, the opposition leaders, who have declared interest in vying in next year’s presidential elections, have hit out at Farmaajo over the composition of the federal electoral commissions.
They accuse Farmaajo of filling the commissions with his allies, civil servants, and National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) officers.
Currently, Farmaajo is under intense pressure to remove the spies, government employees, and loyalists from the commissions.
It is not clear whether Speaker Mursal would support their stance or deliver a message from President Farmaajo.
