A report by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) indicates that swarms of immature desert locusts are expected to migrate from Southern Somalia to Kenya in the next few days.
Currently, the region is experiencing widespread breeding of locusts.
The breeding has mostly been taking place in Eastern Ethiopia, Central and Southern Somalia.
FAO announced that the situation is expected to worsen because of Cyclone Gati, which made a landfall in Somalia at the weekend.
The storms brought about by the cyclone would cause immature swarms to form in the region in early December.
It would then continue until the end of the year.
FAO and other weather experts in the region expect increase migration to southern Somalia, southern Ethiopia, and northern Kenya by the middle of next month.
Consequently, FAO has called for enhanced survey and control operations in the region.
