United Nations Special Envoy in Somalia, James Swan, said that Al-Shabaab remains a threat to national security in the country.
The UN Special Envoy made these sentiments on Monday, November 23 while addressing a session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) virtually.
Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble also addressed the session.
Swan stated that the security situation in the East African nation remains a matter of “grave concern” to the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the country’s international partners.
Lately, Al-Shabaab has increased its attacks in the country.
Consequently, the UN Special Envoy calls them a “primary threat” to the national security.
He urged the international community to intervene and support the government of Somalia to contain the situation, especially now that elections are around the corner.
