KISMAYO — Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam recently hosted Maj. Gen. Claude K. Tudor Jr., commander of Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAFRICA), and his accompanying delegation for a strategic meeting in the port city of Kismayo to enhance regional cooperation in the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab.
Reinforcing Strategic Counterterrorism Alliances
According to regional officials, the high-level meeting centered heavily on reinforcing strategic military alliances and intensifying joint counterterrorism operations against Al-Shabaab militants. The talks also focused on maintaining crucial international support for targeted initiatives designed to fully secure Jubaland State.
During the discussions, Maj. Gen. Tudor explicitly praised recent joint military operations undertaken by Jubaland State forces operating alongside the elite Somali Danab Advanced Infantry Brigade. This aligns with recent tactical victories, such as the successful joint defense of the strategic coastal town of Kudhaa, which officials noted has significantly reduced the militant presence in critical frontline areas.
Sustaining the Offensive Momentum
President Islam, widely known as Ahmed Madobe, stressed the absolute necessity of ongoing international backing—building on the security cooperation historically provided by AFRICOM leadership—to preserve the current offensive momentum.
The president was accompanied at the diplomatic meeting by Jubaland’s Minister of Internal Security, Yusuf Hussein Osman. This high-level security visit occurs precisely as Somali federal and regional forces, fortified by international assistance, systematically intensify their efforts against insurgent bases throughout southern and central Somalia in order to establish lasting regional stability.
