Jubbaland Minister Accuses Ex-Prime Minister of Politicizing Financial Support for Drought

A minister in the regional state of Jubbaland has accused a former Prime Minister of Somalia of politicizing finances donated to support drought mitigation efforts in the region.

Abdirahman Abdi Ahmed, the regional Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, levied this accusation against ex-Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.

According to Ahmed, Roble’s administration disbursed $1 million to assist drought-hit people in Jubbaland.

He said that despite receiving $10,000 from the government twice, the funds were mismanaged.

In the ensuing period, the Roble administration politicized the issue by blaming local officials for mismanaging the funds.

Roble is yet to comment on these allegations.

None of the ministers he left behind is also yet to issue any statement regarding the allegations that the Jubbaland minister made on Thursday, July 28.
