Kenya does not recognize Somaliland’s status as a separate state from Somalia.
The Kenyan government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered this bombshell on Saturday, January 22.
Raychelle Omamo, the Kenyan foreign affairs minister, broke this news.
According to Omamo, Kenya recognizes Somaliland as a part of the federal republic of Somalia.
Somaliland broke away from Somalia in 1991 just at the start of the Civil War.
Since then, Somaliland has sought international recognition without much success.
Last year, there were fears that Kenya was about to accord Somaliland official recognition when it hosted President Muse Bihi Abdi.
