Mother and Daughter among Four Civilians Killed in a Landmine Blast in Somalia

An official has confirmed that four civilians died when a landmine exploded in the southern province of Lower Shabelle on Thursday.

According to provincial administration, Awdheegle Town was the scene of the tragic incident in which a mother and her daughter were killed.

Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) troops recently took back control of Awdheegle Town from the grip of Al-Shabaab.

A regional police official, Ahmed Jama confirmed that three women were among the dead. Ahmed also said that two other civilians suffered injuries when the IED exploded.

Jama referred to the attack as a “callous act of terrorism.”

No one has claimed responsibility for the horrendous attack. In the past, though, officials have blamed Al-Shabaab for carrying out similar attacks by planting IEDs on the country’s highways.
