No New Locust Swarms Reported in Northeast Somalia

No new swarms of locusts have been reported in northeast Somalia, according to the latest report from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

FAO said that new swarms of hopper bands are forming in central parts of the East African nation.

As per its report, FAO claims that widespread hatching has been recorded in central Somalia.

Additionally, the organization indicated that widespread breeding is also taking place in eastern parts of Ethiopia.

The formation of new swarms is also scheduled for early December 2020.

By mid-December, the new swarms would have relocated to southern Somalia and Kenya. Somalia has also witnessed an increase in the population of immature swarms.

A large population of immature swarms is in Hargeisa, Boroma, and other northwest parts of the Horn of Africa nation.
