The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) has called for the immediate release of a journalist who has been in police custody for the better part of this week.
On Saturday, the union urged authorities in Gedo to release Mohamud Abdirashid Moallim Boodboode from detention with immediate effect.
According to the NUSOJ statement, the “illegal” detention of the journalist threatens journalistic freedom in the country.
Boodboode works for the United Nations-funded Radio Ergo as a reporter.
NUSOJ revealed that the reporter was arrested and detained following orders from Dahir Muhumad Nur Aato, the Luuq District Commissioner.
