Opposition to Proceed with Planned Anti-Government Protests in Mogadishu

Opposition politicians have announced plans to proceed with anti-government protests in Mogadishu.

Earlier this week, they asked members of the public to turn out in large numbers for the rally designed to voice their protests at the government’s inability to hold elections.

However, yesterday, the government banned all public gatherings in the wake of rising cases of COVID-19 in the country.

On February 18, several opposition leaders went on a walkabout at the site of Friday’s rally.

The rally is scheduled to take place at the Unknown Soldier’s Monument in Mogadishu.

Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Hassan Sheikh Mohamed, two former presidents of Somalia, led their colleagues in touring the site of the rally.
