More than 3.5 million Somalis are at risk of facing acute food insecurity.
Latest data indicates that the number could increase significantly following the recent flooding of River Juba and River Shabelle.
The floods destroyed tons of crops after inundating the surrounding farmland.
Hiiran, Juba, and Shabelle have suffered the most from the floods.
Local populations also had to relocate to safer and higher grounds, a situation that created a lack of adequate manpower for the farmland.
Currently, Somalia has close to 2.9 internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Over the last few months, various stakeholders have urged the international community to release funds to cater for Somalia’s humanitarian crisis before the situation worsens.
