SNA and AUSSOM conduct joint patrol in Barawe

BARAWE — Troops from Sector 1 of the African Union Supported and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), in cooperation with the Somali National Army (SNA), carried out a major joint patrol in the Barawe sub-sector this week.

The operation was designed to monitor potential terrorist threats, prevent hostile activities, and reinforce overall stability in the coastal region of Lower Shabelle.

Enhancing Coordination

Battle Group 45 Commander, Col. Justus Musenene, acknowledged the efforts of the joint forces. He highlighted that these patrols serve a dual purpose: safeguarding the region and enhancing the operational capacity of Somali security forces as they prepare to assume complete responsibility for national security.

The operation was commanded on the ground by Lt. Col. Geoffrey Ochan, Commanding Officer of the 145 Battalion, who underscored the significance of combined operations in neutralizing security threats.

Strengthening Partnership

The SNA 66 Brigade Commander, Col. Liban Yusuf Garre, expressed appreciation for the dedication shown by the AUSSOM troops.

“These patrols not only safeguard the region but also enhance the capacity of Somali security forces,” Col. Musenene stated.

The joint exercise is part of a broader strategy to secure key supply routes and population centers in South West State against insurgent activity.
