Middle Shabelle, Somalia – The Somali National Armed Forces (SNA) have apprehended several suspected Al-Shabaab militants in a targeted security operation conducted near Deegaanleey, Muryaale, and El-Waranle areas of Middle Shabelle region.
The operation, aimed at dismantling Al-Shabaab’s extortion networks and intimidation campaigns, was carried out over the weekend following intelligence reports about militant activity in the region.
According to military officials, the suspects were involved in collecting illegal taxes from local communities and threatening residents who refused to comply.
The Middle Shabelle region has been a recurring hotspot for Al-Shabaab activities, especially along rural routes used for logistics and recruitment.
Security forces say the operation is part of broader efforts to restore stability in central Somalia and deny the group freedom of movement.
Local residents welcomed the SNA’s intervention, expressing relief that key figures behind the recent wave of threats and forced collections had been arrested.
The government has reiterated its commitment to continuing joint operations with local authorities and community members to root out Al-Shabaab cells in the region.
No casualties were reported among the armed forces during the mission. Further updates are expected once investigations are complete.
