Washington, D.C., United States — Somalia’s Ambassador to Tanzania and the East African Community, Ilyas Ali Hassan, paid a courtesy visit to the Somali Embassy in Washington, D.C., marking a symbolic show of unity within Somalia’s expanding diplomatic network.
He was warmly received by Somalia’s Ambassador to the United States, Dahir Hassan, along with senior Embassy staff who welcomed their colleague with what officials described as “an atmosphere of camaraderie and shared purpose.”
Following the visit, Amb. Hassan issued a brief statement expressing gratitude for the hospitality extended to him. He praised the Embassy’s ongoing work in strengthening Somalia’s international standing and serving its diaspora community across the United States.
“I am deeply appreciative of the warm welcome I received. The team here is doing remarkable work in representing our nation’s interests, and I commend their dedication,” he said.
The visit comes at a time when Somalia is expanding its engagement across multiple continents, not only within the East African Community — where it recently became a full member — but also with longstanding partners such as the United States. Diplomats say such exchanges reinforce coordination between missions and help harmonize Somalia’s foreign policy across regions.
While largely ceremonial, the stopover underscored a growing spirit of cohesion among Somali envoys, many of whom are tasked with advancing Somalia’s economic, security, and regional integration agendas on the global stage.
Embassy officials described the visit as both cordial and productive, hinting that future collaboration between the Washington and Dar es Salaam missions could soon be on the horizon.
