Nairobi, Kenya – The President of the Somali Football Federation (SFF), Ali Abdi Mohamed, has paid a courtesy visit to Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, to discuss ways of strengthening support for Somali football clubs and players participating in international competitions.
During the meeting, held at the Somali Embassy in Nairobi, both leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Federation and Somalia’s diplomatic missions to enhance the development of Somali football at both grassroots and professional levels.
Amb. Abdulle welcomed the initiative, noting that the Embassy stands ready to facilitate engagements that will help Somali clubs access better resources, training opportunities, and exposure in regional and global tournaments. He stressed that sports, particularly football, serve as a unifying force for Somalis worldwide and play a critical role in promoting Somalia’s positive image abroad.
SFF President Mohamed reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to working closely with the Embassy to create an enabling environment for Somali athletes. He highlighted that many Somali clubs face logistical challenges when traveling abroad, including visa processes, accommodation, and access to training facilities. The new partnership aims to ease such hurdles, ensuring that Somali teams can fully focus on performance and competitiveness.
The discussion also touched on long-term strategies to promote Somali youth talent, strengthen club management structures, and enhance Somalia’s participation in upcoming continental and international tournaments.
This development comes at a time when Somali football has been steadily gaining recognition, with clubs and players showcasing resilience despite limited resources. Both the Federation and the Embassy pledged to sustain their collaboration to ensure that Somali footballers receive the support they need to thrive.
