A Somali legislator has reportedly withdrawn from the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) presidential election.
Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe of the House of the People (Lower House) wrote to IPU on Tuesday on this matter.
Speaker Madobe’s letter informed the organization that Ms. Marwa Abdi Bashir Hagi withdrew her candidature.
The IPU election is scheduled for the last days of October 2023.
In his letter, Speaker Madobe said that following Ms. Hagi’s decision to withdraw from the race, the Somali parliament would no longer pursue the IPU presidency.
