Somali Military Court Sentences 2 Al-Shabaab Militants to 8 Years in Prison

The Somali National Army (SNA) military court has sentenced Abdi Abdulle Omar and Mohamed Mohamud Abdi to 8 years in prison each, while Abdullahi Ahmed Abdi received a 4-year sentence.

The court found them guilty of collaborating with Al-Shabaab and providing information on nine vessels transporting goods for Somali business owners, with the intent to extort funds.

This sentencing, which was handed down on Thursday, reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to curb Al-Shabaab’s influence and protect local businesses from extortion attempts.
