Somali Minister Visits Embassy in Algeria Ahead of Official Opening

Algiers, Algeria – Somalia’s State Minister for Public Works, Said Mohamed Mohamud, paid an official visit to the Somali Embassy in Algiers ahead of its formal inauguration, a significant step in strengthening Somalia’s diplomatic presence and bilateral relations in North Africa.

The visit comes as part of a broader diplomatic initiative by the Federal Government of Somalia to expand and reinforce its foreign missions in strategic regions.

Mohamud toured the embassy premises and held discussions with the diplomatic staff, assessing final preparations before the embassy is formally inaugurated by Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in the coming days.

Speaking during the visit,  Mohamud emphasized the importance of the embassy in fostering closer cooperation between Somalia and Algeria.

“This mission will play a critical role in advancing Somalia’s interests in North Africa, enhancing political, economic, and cultural ties with Algeria, and serving our citizens in the region,” he stated.

The re-establishment and operationalization of the Somali Embassy in Algeria reflect the country’s ongoing efforts to reassert its global diplomatic footprint after years of conflict and reconstruction.

Algeria, a long-time supporter of Somalia’s sovereignty and development, has expressed strong interest in revitalizing cooperation in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, education, and security.

The official inauguration of the embassy by Somalia’s foreign affairs minister is expected to draw senior officials from both countries and underscore a renewed era of partnership between Mogadishu and Algiers.

This move aligns with Somalia’s broader foreign policy strategy of re-engaging with African partners and expanding its diplomatic reach across the continent.
