A Somali Member of Parliament (MP) called the recent attack on two ex-presidents a “naked assault on democracy.”
Abdurahman Odowaa, a legislator in Somali Federal Parliament, condemned the February 18 attack on ex-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamed and ex-President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.
On Thursday night, the two former presidents were attacked while staying at Maida Hotel in Mogadishu.
They opted to spend the night at the hotel ahead of the anti-government rally scheduled for Friday at the Daljirka Dahson Monument in the nation’s capital.
Odowaa spoke out angrily against the incident.
He said that it was proof of the government’s refusal to practice good governance, which the people of Somalia earnestly await.
According to Odowaa, the move was an attempt to silence the voice of the people.
The legislator urged Somalis to demand the resignation of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, who he called a “dictator.”
