Somali PM to Travel to Dhusamareb to Meet Regional Leaders

Reports indicate that Hassan Ali Khaire, the current Somali Prime Minister, is likely to travel to Dhusamareb to meet the leaders of Federal Member States (FMS).

Five regional leaders have been meeting in Dhusamareb, the administrative capital of Galmudug state since July 8, 2020.

They scheduled the meeting after the one initially planned for July 5-8 between FMS and Federal Government of Somalia in Mogadishu failed to take place.

PM Khaire has reportedly made plans to travel to the meeting on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports show that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo could also travel to Dhusamareb for the same meeting on Thursday.

The Dhusamareb meeting has already discussed the Somali 2020 elections.

All the five regional leaders at the meeting agreed that the country was unprepared for the universal suffrage polls that had been in the public’s mind for months.

Instead, the leaders of Puntland, Galmudug, Jubbaland, Southwest, and HirShabelle seem to be advocating for a “politically negotiated” solution to prevent chaos from breaking out.
