Somali Police Enforce Curfew in Mogadishu

Somali police have vowed to enforce the curfew that the Federal Government of Somalia has imposed around the country.

In Mogadishu, the curfew lasts from 7pm each evening. Initially, it started at 8pm.

The new directive is set to create confusion and a lot of anger by Somalis in the country, especially those in the capital city.

The extension of curfew from 7pm takes effect from the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan, which kicks off on Friday.

Gen. Abdi Hassan Hijar, the country’s Police Commissioner, has asked all police officers to ensure that Somalis and everyone living in the Horn of Africa nation observe the curfew.

He has also advised everyone in the country to adhere to the measures the government has imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Curfew is one of those measures, which also include social distancing, regular washing of hand with water, soap, and sanitizers.

Furthermore, the government has banned all domestic and international flights while closing all schools – including religious institutions.
