The President of Somalia and Members of Parliament (MPs) could soon have their terms in office increased to five years.
Currently, the President and legislators serve for a term of four years before seeking re-election from the electorate.
The House of the People and the Senate both appointed special committees to advise on the proposal from several MPs.
If the proposal goes through, MPs would serve for five years.
The President would also go face the electorate for re-election after every 5-year period.
In case the Lower House agrees with the Upper House to pass the proposal, then Somalia could hold elections only in May 2027.
