Somalia About to Join World Trade Organisation

Somalia has made a significant step as it moves closer to integrating into the global trading system with membership in the World Trade Organisation (WTO) looking closer by the day.

The participation of a high-level federal delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama and including key economic advisors such as Hassan Ahmed Hosow, underscores the importance Somalia places on its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The inaugural Working Party Meeting in Geneva marks the formal start of negotiations and discussions on Somalia’s trade policies and economic reforms required for WTO membership.

This process is crucial for Somalia as it seeks to align its trade practices with international standards, attract foreign investment, and enhance its economic development.

WTO accession is a complex and lengthy process, but it offers substantial long-term benefits, including improved market access, increased trade opportunities, and a more predictable and transparent trade environment.

For Somalia, this step represents not only economic progress but also a signal of stability and commitment to global economic integration after years of conflict and challenges.

The international community will likely watch this process closely, offering support and guidance to ensure Somalia’s successful integration into the global trade framework.

This is a positive development for the country and the region as a whole.
