Somalia Blasts Amnesty International for Condemning Ongoing Operations against Terrorists

Somalia has blasted Amnesty International for condemning the ongoing operations against Al-Shabaab terrorists.

On November 26, the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism issued a statement addressed to the Amnesty International Regional Director for East and Southern Africa.

In the statement, Somalia maintained that it “condemns all human rights violations and abuses” strongly.

However, it reminded Amnesty International of the fragility of respecting and adhering to human rights if conflicts remain unresolved amicably.

It added that the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab is the country’s attempt to the dignity, peace, and rights of all the people of Somalia.

Furthermore, the ministry reminded Amnesty that terrorist acts by Al-Shabaab keep Somalis from accessing humanitarian assistance, food, and medicine.

Nevertheless, it promised to always adhere to peace and security strategies that are founded on the principles of human rights.
