Somalia Denies Reports of Maritime Treaty with Ethiopia

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has denied reports indicating that it has entered a maritime treaty with Ethiopia.

Somalia refuted the reports that emanated following a meeting between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and President William Ruto in Nairobi.

President Mohamud had traveled to Nairobi on a one-day official visit at the invitation of Kenya’s President Ruto.

Ali Omar, the State Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that reports of a maritime agreement between Somalia and Ethiopia are “completely unfounded.”

According to the state minister, Somalia remains interested in securing its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
