Somalia Extends Flight Ban over COVID-19

The Federal Government of Somalia has extended the ban it had imposed on flights into the country over COVID-19 fears.

Somalia’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation announced the extension of the ban to stop the novel Coronavirus from reemerging in areas where it has been vanishing.

Similarly, the ministry reiterated that the extension was necessary to continue protecting areas that had yet to confirm any COVID-19 case.

However, the minister, Mohamed Abdilahi Salad, has not indicated when the ban is likely to be lifted.

Initially, the government had set aside June 30, 2020 as the date when the ban was to be lifted.

The country imposed the ban on all domestic and international flights two months ago when the first cases of the virulent disease had just been confirmed.
