Cape Town, South Africa — A high-level delegation from the Federal Government of Somalia, led by Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Abdirashid Hagi Abdi, has arrived in Cape Town to participate in the African Continent Water Investment Summit.
The three-day gathering brings together African heads of state, senior government officials, policymakers, and development partners to mobilize resources and foster partnerships aimed at boosting water security across the continent.
The summit will focus on scaling up investment in sustainable water infrastructure, tackling the challenges posed by climate change, and ensuring equitable access to clean water for all Africans. It is expected to serve as a platform for securing financing commitments from both public and private sectors.
Deputy Prime Minister Abdi is expected to present Somalia’s national priorities in water management, highlighting the urgent need for investment to address recurrent droughts, improve rural water supply, and strengthen climate resilience. Somalia’s participation underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging continental partnerships to tackle its pressing water and environmental challenges.
The event, attended by representatives from multiple African countries and international agencies, aims to align with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation.
Organizers say the summit could pave the way for multi-billion-dollar investments in water projects, with an emphasis on innovation, renewable energy integration, and cross-border water cooperation.
