The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has said that it needs $1 billion to feed four million people who face starvation.
On February 15, the government sent a joint appeal with the United Nations.
In the appeal, Somalia and the UN said that the country requires over $1.09 billion for feeding millions of citizens who face starvation.
On Monday, the UN and Somalia said that the country finds itself in a tight spot owing to the combined effects of drought, COVID-19, floods, and locust infestation.
Adam Abdelmoula, the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator, said that millions of women, men, and children are at great risk of starving to death.
The funds would enable Somalia to provide the needy with basic services.
In its estimates, the needy require health services, food, and shelter.
The UN stated that 2.3 million people in Somalia received humanitarian assistance in 2020 against its target of 3 million.
