Somalia Renews Calls for Lifting of UN Arms Embargo

Somalia has renewed calls for the lifting of the United Nations arms embargo.

The renewed calls came after the East African nation recently re-launched the offensives against Al-Shabaab terrorists.

Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur made the call after holding discussions with the Switzerland Ambassador to Somalia.

Nur, the Minister of Defense, asked Ambassador Valentin Zellweger for his country’s support as Somalia seeks to convince the international community to lift the embargo.

The UN imposed the embargo against Somalia over three decades ago.
