Somalia Sets December 24 as Deadline for Lower House Elections

Somalia is scheduled to hold its House of the People (Lower House) elections by December 24, 2021.

The Federal Elections Implementation Team (FEIT) announced this on November 11.

According to the FEIT announcement, elections will kick off from November 16 at the regional state level and Mogadishu.

Somaliland already held Lower House elections for two seats.

In the Somaliland polls, Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Gulaid was elected one of the new Members of Parliament (MPs).

However, Somalia is likely to be unable to hold presidential polls before the end of the year.
