Somalia leaders have agreed on the need to recruit more security affairs in light of the planned withdrawal of African Union Transition Mission to Somalia (ATMIS) forces.
The leaders agreed on this during the National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting held in Baidoa between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the Federal Member States (FMS).
They agreed to have an armed force that has a minimum of 30,000 soldiers.
Furthermore, the federal and regional state leaders approved the proposal to push up the number of police officers to 40,000.
ATMIS plans to pull its personnel out of Somalia by the end of 2023.
The plans are contained in an agreement known as the National Security Architecture.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre added that the newly recruited officers do not include personnel who underwent training in Turkey and the United States.
