On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health announced two more COVID-19 deaths to bring to 28 the total number of people who have died of the pandemic.
According to the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), two more Somalis succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
This news shocked the country as the health ministry also confirmed 48 new COVID-19 cases to raise the total to 528.
With the latest number of confirmed cases and deaths, Somalia now becomes the epicenter of the disease in the Horn of Africa region.
The news is quite grim in a country whose government has instituted various measures to curb the spread of the disease.
Among these measures is a ban on all domestic and international flights, the closure of all formal and religious schools, and a curfew from 7pm to 5am in various parts of the country.
