Newly sworn-in legislators from the two chambers of federal parliament have announced the dates for electing speakers and deputy speakers.
Somalia’s Members of Parliament (MPs) and Senators have settled on April 26 and 27 as the dates for electing speakers and their deputies.
Currently, the House of the People (Lower House) and Senate (Upper House) have settled on two old MPs to act as speakers on an interim basis.
The two chambers have also appointed a 10-member committee to prepare for the speakers and deputy speakers elections.
Members of both houses held their first joint session of the 11th Federal Parliament on Monday, April 18.
In today’s session, they settled on the dates for electing new speakers.
Consequently, the candidates for these positions have around a week to canvas for votes.
