Somalia’s battery of international partners has urged political leaders in the country and other stakeholders to hold meaningful talks on the polls crisis.
The East African nation is at a crossroad where elections are concerned.
It was scheduled to hold parliamentary and presidential elections in December 2020 and February 2021 respectively.
However, the Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) postponed parliamentary polls to January 2021.
It is not clear whether presidential elections would take place next month as scheduled.
On January 12, representatives of the nation’s international partners called for “meaningful talks” to solve the ongoing impasse.
Representatives of the partners issued a press statement on Tuesday stating their disappointment at the events happening in the Horn of Africa nation.
They issued their statement a few hours after the Council of Presidential Candidates’ Union accused President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of planning to “extend his term in office.”
