Yassin Hagi, Somaliland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has traveled to Uganda to lobby for his country’s inclusion into the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
During his working visit in Kampala, Hagi is scheduled to meet with Sam Kutesa, Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Furthermore, his itinerary also includes a meeting with Rebecca Kadaga, the Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament.
Earlier, Speaker Kadaga affirmed Uganda’s commitment to help Somaliland earn membership to IPU.
IPU is a global organization comprising national parliaments.
Its mandate is quite wide-ranging and includes empowering parliaments and parliamentarians to pursue peace, advocate democracy, and promote sustainable development.
IPU, which was created in 1889, currently boasts of 179 member parliaments representing 193 countries around the world.
Hagi’s tour of Uganda is part of Somaliland’s continuing efforts to receive international recognition.
