Somaliland Government Will Not Allow Opposition Protests

The Somaliland government has vowed not to allow protests by opposition parties and their supporters anywhere in the country.

Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, the Minister of Interior, issued the warning on Thursday, August 4.

He said that the plans by opposition parties to proceed with the protests amid an impasse in talks were in bad faith.

Talks between the government and the opposition broke down a few weeks ago.

Kahin ordered regional troops to be on the lookout for any protests by opposition parties.

Opposition parties and their supporters vowed to proceed with the protests as a way of forcing the government not to postpone the elections due on November 13, 2022.

The interior minister told them that anyone who participates in the street protests would be undermining security.
