China has expressed gratitude to Somalia for supporting the stance it took over the recent visit to Taiwan by a senior United States official.
Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, visited Taiwan on August 3.
Her visit angered China, who had warned her and the US against traveling to Taiwan.
On Saturday, Somalia issued an official statement through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation declaring its support for China.
In the statement, Somalia says that it supports the “one-China policy.”
The Chinese Embassy in Somalia expressed gratitude to the Somali government for the show of support.
