Abdirisak Khalif Ahmed, the newly elected Speaker of Somaliland’s Lower House, received a delegation from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) at his office on August 11.
Speaker Ahmed held a meeting with Simon Strachman, the Head of UNSOM’s Office in Somaliland.
Several senior officers of UNSOM – including the organization’s Head of Human Rights – accompanied Strachman to Hargeisa for the meeting with parliamentary staff.
Sources intimated that the purpose of the meeting was for representatives from both sides to get to know each other well.
On his part, Speaker Ahmed briefed the UNSOM delegation on parliament’s plans for the next year.
He also assured the UNSOM team of parliament’s dedication to discharge its constitutional mandate.
Strachman and his delegation promised to support the House of Representatives. He said that his team will work closely with the parliamentary personnel for the benefit of all people of Somaliland.
