Southwest Leader Pardons Soldiers Who Participated in Recent Baidoa Protests

The President of the regional state of Southwest has pardoned the soldiers who participated in the recent protests in Baidoa.

President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen of Southwest announced a blanket pardon of the soldiers on Sunday.

Recently, Baidoa was the scene of protests that lasted several days.

The demonstrations and acrimony witnessed among leaders forced the Speaker of the House of the People (Lower House) to organize a reconciliation conference in the region.

Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud attended the reconciliation conference.

The decision by Laftagareen to pardon the soldiers is the result of the reconciliatory efforts that President Mohamud led last week.
