Southwest State’s Deputy Governor for Social Affairs in the Lower Shabelle region, Abdullahi Dahir Mohamed, narrowly escaped an ambush by Al-Shabaab militants on Tuesday.
The attack targeted his convoy in the Doonka area, about 11 kilometers from Afgoye, a town situated roughly 30 kilometers north of Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital.
According to security sources, at least one soldier was killed, and another was wounded during the clash.
Reports indicate that the militants seized a government combat vehicle following the assault.
This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region, as Al-Shabaab continues its campaign of targeting officials and convoys.
