The Somali Cabinet has decided to replace Chief of Defence Forces Ibrahim Sheikh Muhiyidin with General Odawah Yusuf Rageh.
Gen. Rageh previously served in the same capacity between 2019 and 2023.
His reappointment is intended to accelerate the military campaign against Al-Shabaab, leveraging his experience and record of significant victories against the group.
During his previous term, the Somali National Army gained considerable ground, achieving critical successes that weakened Al-Shabaab’s influence in various regions.
The Cabinet’s decision, which was made on Sunday, reflects a strategic focus on intensifying and consolidating efforts to eliminate the group.
