UN Says Somalis Crossing into Ethiopia to Escape Worsening Drought

The United Nations has said that many Somalis are crossing into Ethiopia to escape the biting drought and famine back in their country.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Agency (OCHA) announced this during its latest report on January 20.

According to the OCHA report, the drought is worse because of the failed rains that were expected to fall between October and December 2021.

The OCHA report lists 3.2 million people facing drought in Somalia.

Further, it says that the drought has displaced 245,000 Somalis.

Many of the displaced persons have flocked to towns while others have crossed the border into Ethiopia for humanitarian assistance.
