The Minister of Internal Security held discussions with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Somalia’s Representative Saeed Wafaa on child protection measures.
In his discussions with Wafaa, internal security minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag briefed the UNICEF representative on child protection measures that the Somali government has put in place.
Furthermore, they discussed the need for reintegrating former child soldiers in Somalia have been noted.
Since 1991 when Somalia suffered the civil war, the country has endured a major problem with child soldiers.
Terrorist groups in the country and other militia have recruited child soldiers as well to fight their wars. Fartaag and Wafaa agreed on the need for reintegrating them.
