The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hassan Khaire, has said that the construction of the road that links Mogadishu to Afgooye, which is funded by the Qatari government, will be completed in the next two months.

According to the Prime Minister, the construction of 30km road is nearly over.  As of early 2020, the public will be able to use the road. Previously, interruptions by Al-Shabaab interfered with the ongoing construction, especially when the militant group targeted Turkish engineers in IED attacks.

In November 2017, the Somali government and the Qatari government signed the $200 million agreement for the construction of the Mogadishu-Afgooye road. Through the signing, the roads linking Mogadishu to Afgooye and Mogadishu to Jowhar will be constructed.
